4Good Looking WatchJun 04, 2006
By Dirk Steel
The watch required very little setup out of the box. It was running and accurate. I had to change the readout from Centigrade to Fahrenheit and meters to feet. The directions took some time, but then the change was easy to accomplish.

Positives: The LCD is sharp and easy to read with large numbers. The compass feature is accurate, and the barometer appears to be also. The countdown timer was a must have for me. The feature that has the back light come on when you turn your wrist to look at the watch is pretty cool. I would rate these qualities with a "5".

Negatives: I had to take two links out of the band, and there were no directions for that so it was tricky and the parts are reeeeeal small. The altimeter has me at 400 feet in my living room at one reading and 600 feet at the next. The thermometer picks up your body heat, so it must be taken off and set aside for about 45 minutes to get an accurate room temperature. The auto-light feature doesn't work in all lighting conditions and the light button is flush with the watch... VERY hard to find in the dark... a raised button would help. At this time I would rate these features a "2".

Overall: It is a good watch. It is larger than a regular watch, but is attractive and easy to read. It may be overpriced, but so far I am glad I bought it.

(I have had the watch for about three months now.. It is a great watch. I don't use the extra features very much, and the black area around the crystal has a few small scratches that let the metal show through, but I am still happy with the watch.)

((I have had the watch for a year now. Never had to adjust the time or worry about anything. It is working great!))

5A few additional commentsOct 07, 2006
By J. Leigh "jleigh7"
A few additional comments:

- If you have owned one of Casio's Pathfinder-type watches in the past, you will feel very comfortable with this one. The interface is very consistent with previous ones.

- The titanium band is great. It's light unlike traditional heavy steel bands.

- This watch appears bulkier than previous Pathfinders, due in large part to its silver color. It is slightly longer but slightly narrower. It is however no thicker than previous generation watches.

- Watch face is actually smaller than previous Pathfinders but time display is actually larger. LCD is sunken deep into watch so rim tends to cast a shadow around the edges. Compared to a previous gen Pathfinder, the LCD has slightly less contrast.

5Coverage in TorontoAug 12, 2006
By Barebones
I was afraid I'd have a hard time getting signal coverage in Toronto, Ontario. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the watch has no problem synchronizing with the Fort Collins, Colorado transmitter each night, as long as I leave it next to a southwest-facing window. It's nice to have a wristwatch that is within a fraction of a second off an atomic reference... The user interface is well-designed, and all the functions work as advertised. The only drawback I could find is that you can't display both date and day-of-week at the same time. Also, for a $200+ watch I'd expect to see a dot-matrix rather than a 7-segment LCD for the time readout; there is a dot matrix there, but it is only used for date and for altitude and barometric pressure charts. As another reviewer noted, it isn't easy to remove links from the band. However, a 5-minute (plus $5) trip to a local jeweller took care of that. All in all, a high quality watch.

5A great buy...Aug 25, 2006
By Flip
I purchased this watch after seeing it in the Skymall catalog for $380. Of course, I knew I could find it cheaper and $215 did the trick! The watch is exactly what I thought it would be. The fact that it is solar and not kinetic like my last one is a huge improvement. I use the altimeter and barometer all the time. The biggest problem I find is that the atomic clocks around the world do not have the range that the one in Denver does. Consequently, the coverage is quite minimal outside the U.S. However, that being said, the watch appears to keep time fairly accurately for quite some time.

The watch face is also quite large. It took me a couple of days to get used to.

Finally, the thermometer leaves a bit to be desired as you have to take the watch off for a couple of minutes to get an accurate reading of ambient temperature, otherwise it measures the temperature of the top of your wrist.

Overall, I really like the watch and it's what I expected it to be.

5My New Favorite WatchJan 09, 2007
By Phoink
I own several watches... and this one has become my favorite. Was getting tired of replacing the super capacitor in my Seiko Kinetic. Was attracted to the Casio by the solar charging feature. The display is crisp and easy to see... the band was initially a bit too large for my wrist, but I was easily able to remove a link with a push-pin. The body of the watch is pretty large compared to my Seiko Titanium. But with the band sized properly, it fits well and is comfortable. The solar charging is fast and the time syncro works well. The Barometer, Alt, Temp, & Compass features all work well. Keep in mind, to get an accurate surrounding temp, you need to take watch off your wrist for a couple of minutes. The crystal is pretty tough, I have whacked it a few times while working and it is no worse for the wear. The alarm is loud enough to hear above ambient noise. Backlighting is good in low light conditions. 5 Stars
