Great watch, great value, classy styleJan 23, 2008

"Dragon Heart"
I was looking for a very specific watch type and functions and largely found them all in this watch. First, I am generally very happy with this watch. It sports a classy yet functional look yet isn't so big and heavy as to be cumbersome.
On the plus side for me are: Diver style look and feel (analog) with medium (average) size hands that have excellent contrast against the blue watch face. Date display is easy to read. Well built with a look that can go out to dinner at a nice place and then out to camp the next. Stopwatch is only okay. Large sweep hand (the red hand seen in the picture which is NOT your second hand but the stopwatch sweep hand) is easy to see and track but the smaller minute tracker (top position under the 12) can be difficult to read. Alarm function is very easy to set (for me). One pull out on the crown and then push the buttons to set the alarm (12 hour alarm). Diver style look is just that-- a look. The bezel doesn't rotate for diver function which was not a big deal for me. I like the leather band that came with it-- supple and very comfortable right out of the box but then I'm not a huge fan of metal bands.
Some of the items to be aware of that I find detract from an otherwise excellent watch: Alarm sound is very soft. If you need to hear it during the day with any type of ambient noise you are going to be very hard pressed to do so. I have worn it at night and had it beside me on a bed stand and it did wake me up but again, sound is very quiet. Illumination is the only other downfall to this watch. I like a watch that has an illumination function, this one relies on the phosphorescent paint on the hands and dial to illuminate during the night. You can make these marks out but at 3AM and bleary eyed it can be pretty tough.
One note to make is that for this particular model (blue face with leather band) the crown does not screw down to lock. I contacted Pulsar about this directly and found that this model does not have that functionality. It is still rated to go in the water and I would imagine you'll be pretty safe doing so. This model has also been discontinued according to Pulsar. The typical list price I saw was $165. Anything under $60 and you got a great watch at a steal of a price.

Nice watch!Jan 04, 2011
By Xterra Driver Excellent quality for the money. Not discounting the quality by any means, just saying that this is high quality watch for a small price. Very easy to read face and looks good for dressy occasions. I've had Pulsar watches before and keep purchasing them because they've stood my test and last forever. Quick shipping was a nice bonus as well!

Great watch at a great priceNov 20, 2007
By Steven L. Zweibel Was looking for a relatively inexpensive watch for daily wear. Ordered this watch and have been very happy with it. The watch is relatively large and heavy. Actually much larger and bulky then I thought from the image. Many people have commented on how nice the watch looks and think I paid much more than $40 for it. I like the large face and the date. The blue background of the face looks classy. Stopwatch is nice to have - for me not a must have feature. The alarm on it is very hard to set - I don't foresee me ever using it. The band is leather with a blue tinge to it but very dark. It is a little bit of a pain to get the watch off - I am used to a metal band and snapping the band off and on - this takes a little getting used to. Since the watch is larger than my other watch (a Tag Heuer) it doesn't fit under the sleeve of some of my dress shirts. Overall a good buy for the $$$.

At the price offered thru Amazon, this watch is an outstanding value. Pulsar is owned by Seiko, so you get Seiko quality at a lower price. Looks great, keeps perfect time.

Crown?Mar 24, 2009
By J. Ladd Others warned about the "screw in crown", but I ordeered on the positive information. My watch looks good and the weight is fine. After I recieved the watch I had to set the time and discovered the crown would not screw back "in" to operate in the normal manner. Maybe it will work after I leave it for a day or two. The crown is a pain as others have said.
