Satisfied but not completelyAug 14, 2008
By M. Hossain I bought a similar Seiko 5 watch for my father when I was in Dubai International Airport from the local gift shop. I paid 67 dollars for it and I was so impressed by the quality of the fit and finish that I wanted to buy one for myself whenever I would get the chance. Mind this, I wore it around town and I banged my wrist into doors or walls since I am a little clumsy. But my father's watch was a champ and didn't have any scratches on it. I have to add this fact that my father's watch was made in Japan and it was written everywhere; on the winding wheel, on the the clasp and also on the dial.
So, when I bought this watch from Amazon I was expecting a similar quality even though I knew this wasn't made in Japan. The example I received is very beautiful and well made. But the links and the metal aren't of the same caliber of my father's watch. It scratches very easily even though I didn't bang into anything. Plus the winding wheel has this smudged ink on the side of it. Its very annoying to look at and feels like some careless worker left a seal on it or something. It tarnishes an otherwise pretty image of mechanical sculpture in motion.
In conclusion, I would say that if you're a frequent traveler to the middle east of South East Asia don't bother buying it from Amazon. They charge way too much for an sub par product. But if you want to buy it from Amazon this is a good buy since I think this is a better watch than the Invicta Pro Diver. The Invicta's movement will only keep it powered for 24 hours without winding while this will go up to 40 hours.
UPDATE: November 21st 2008 I would like to add that buy this watch with the expectation of not getting accurate time. This watch has the tendency to gain like a minute over a period of 4-6 days depending on how much you move your hands. I am not very alarmed since this is a common caveat amongst automatic watches since the springs within the watch might be too tightly wound.
In conclusion, if you don't mind dialing the time back every once in a while but desire a good looking watch at a decent price then go for it. After purchasing this, if the opportunity arises next time I will go for something that is sold by Amazon.com and probably a Citizen Eco-Drive around 90-100 bucks.

Couldn't be better!Aug 04, 2011

I purchased this watch for my father for his birthday. He likes simple yet attractive watches. This watch certainly is that. I was very impressed with the finish of the watch. One review stated that this watch was too shiny and all polished stainless. This is not true. This watch has a very nice brushed stainless finish with nice polished accents. The size of the watch is perfect for my father. He has a very small wrist and after removing four links the watch fit perfectly. I must add that sizing this watch was a snap. The pins were very easily removed. This watch is very light. I sort of expected this automatic to be heavier. I was pleasantly surprised how light the band and watch are. The clear window on the back of the watch is a nice touch. It's pretty cool to see the movement as you can. Another reviewer stated that the watch did not come with instructions. It does... This watch was brand new in a nice Seiko presentation box with instructions. The watch comes on a little pillow. Another reviewer stated that the day was in Spanish. The day is easily adjusted from Spanish to English.
All in all, for the money it couldn't be better. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. From what I could tell (testing in a a short time frame) the watch seems to keep accurate time, but we'll see how it performs over the long haul.

Fine Seiko Automatic WatchDec 06, 2007
By Mark Mccormack The quality and appearance of this watch far exceeded what I expected in light of its cost. Additionally, it keeps excellent time. One cannot ask for more from a purchase.

Seiko's Automatic For The PeopleFeb 09, 2012

There is no question that when it has came down to watches, Seiko has been the leader at making definitive watches for all ages young and old, male and female. Yet, many people have often overlooked the Seiko 5 automatic watch line, while everyone has savored their traditional quartz, Cotura chronographs, Seiko Solar, and their Kinetic rechargeable quartz battery watches. But there are still automatic watches that handle well. This Seiko 5 SNK789 watch handles mostly well, with a simple and elegant design that is simple and contemporary. Yet, there are a few flaws on the watch. The first is that is has a lower water resistance level than advertised. It only has 30 Meters (100 Feet) of water resistance, not 100 Meters of water protection (330 Feet as advertised on Amazon.) The second one is that it can be very rough to pull out the crown to reset the time than most other Seiko watches. Still, you do get mostly well a nicely showcased and simple silvertoned watch for its price. I just wish there was a bit more with this model from Seiko, but you do get a nice watch for what its worth.

Fantastic WatchMar 26, 2012
By cfegela This watch is simply stunning. I was blown away when I opened the box. Completely understated and elegant. Based on some of the bad reviews, I wonder if there are older 789's that came from a different source...mine has a Malaysian stamp and it is simply a work of art. Now I know why everone raves about the Seiko 5 series. This has to be the most incredible value in timekeeping...
